What are a list of toxins? Toxins are considered to be poisonous substances that are classified as either organic or inorganic. There are toxins in products, toxins in food, toxins in products, and most importantly, they end up as toxins in the human body.

Knowing these dangerous chemicals, and that they are capable of causing harm to you, either by contact with them or by absorbing them through your food, air, or water, or other means, is very important to your health.

What are toxins in products? Our food, air and water just 75-100 years ago was relatively safe. But in just one generation, the situation has changed dramatically. Knowing what are toxins in our food, environment, and home is important, and knowing how to protect ourselves is crucial.

Today the dangerous list of toxins in our air, food and water is frightening to say the least. We need to be familiar with the list of toxins to protect our health. Most chemicals in our environment didn't even exist 100 years ago, and so we don't really know the long-term affect of these toxins on our health.

This list of toxins varies greatly in their severity, so depending on what are toxins, and how lethal, your life could depend on your ability for cleansing toxins from your body.

The number on the dangerous list of toxins we must deal with every day is overwhelming.

To cope with this onslaught, a healthy person must have a dual strategy - to reduce or eliminate exposure to known toxins, and have the ability for cleansing toxins from your body as they end up as toxins in the human body. We will cover that later in the page. For now, the first step is to see a list of toxins.

A List Of Toxins That We Deal With Are:

  • Cigarette Smoke (benzene, lead, arsenic, acetone)

Scared out of your wits? Don't be. Becoming familiar with a list of toxins is the first step. Have a good offense and defense strategy to protect yourself from toxins. Here is a list of good offensive moves you can take to protect yourself below:

  • Learn the list of toxins in products, toxins in your home, toxins in food, everyday toxins, and how they all end up as toxins in the human body. There are chemicals in your food, air, water, and household chemicals, learn the list of toxins by reading labels and doing your own research.
  • Most people are aware of the need to filter their water to remove impurities. This is very important, but there's more you can do. Distilled, reverse osmosis, and bottled water are all acidic. Instead, it's important to drink ionized and negatively charged alkaline water to boost your water's detoxifying power. You can learn more about the benefits on our alkaline water page.   • Change heating and A/C filters often.
  • When there are pollution advisories, by all means, heed them!
  • The dangerous list of toxins in cigarette smoke puts you and those around you at danger. If you are a smoker, consider quitting.
  • Try to reduce or eliminate your exposure to secondhand smoke, a particularly dangerous source of dangerous poisons.
  • Don't overindulge in alcohol. If you do consume alcohol, do so in moderation. Alcohol is a poison when over consumed.
  • Avoid Aspartame, Saccharin, Splenda, Nutrasweet, & artificial sweeteners in general. These are excitotoxins that affect your brain chemistry. Use natural sweeteners like stevia or xylitol instead. These are becoming increasingly available in bulk and in foods and beverages.
  • Minimize your consumption of processed foods - frozen dinners, canned soups, and pre-packaged snack foods.
  • Check labels and ask at restaurants to avoid MSG- an excitotoxin.
  • Buy organic food to eliminate possible herbicides, pesticides, and fungicides.

  • Consider investing in a high quality HEPA air purifier for your home. There are many toxins in your home and air that you just cannot control.
  • If you choose to use pesticides, herbicides, or insect repellents in or around the home, garden or yard, choose a natural pesticide or organic products containing pyrethrum or neem. Or try using a mild soap solution, boiled cayenne pepper solution, or pheremone traps. You can also try insects like ladybugs and praying mantis.
  • When using insect repellent, read the labels and avoid the ingredient DEET.
  • Limit the amount of clothes you take to the dry cleaners,air them out before bringing them indoors, or consider using an organic dry cleaner.
  • Try to reduce or eliminate your use of antacids that contain aluminum. Read the label and choose ones with calcium carbonate instead.
  • Limit your time in the hot steamy shower to reduce chlorine and chloroform exposure.
  • If you can't pronounce the words on the label, or they have 5 or more syllables, it's usually a good idea to skip it!
  • Wear protective rubber gloves when cleaning or using other household chemicals. Be extra careful with products like bleach, or use a non-chlorine bleach to limit chlorine exposure. Treat them as you would any other poison, and keep them out of children's reach.

  • Consider using environmentally friendly laundry detergent and fabric whitener.
  • Do not live or work in close proximity to power lines, transformers, or high-tension electrical wires.
  • Limit your use of the cell phone, and do not clip it to your body. Use an earphone where practical.
  • Limit barbecued or charred food, and avoid smoked or cured meats, a source of nitrosamines.
  • Limit your fragrance exposure in your home-everything from fragranced candles to fabric softener.
  • Know what is in your anti-perspirant. Many contain aluminum chlorohydrate. Switch instead to a deodorant without anti-perspirant.
  • Limit your use of plastics as much as possible, and do not microwave in plastic containers not designed for such use. Many plastics today contain phthalate, a dangerous toxin.
  • Know your fish. Since poisons like mercury collect in fatty tissues, and mercury amounts are highest in large fish, eat smaller fish, do not eat the fatty portions, and follow your local guidelines for limits on safe fish consumption in your area.
  • Wear a protective sunblock when out in the sun, and re-apply as needed. Harmful UV radiation exposure can lead to various forms of sun poisoning, or skin cancer.
  • Make sure any vaccinations you or your children receive do not contain any thimerosal, which uses mercury as a preservative.

  • Avoid covering your food in the microwave with plastic wrap as toxins in the plastic can end up in your food.
  • Read labels that contain acetaminophen carefully, and do not exceed the recommended guidelines to avoid liver damage. Learn more


  • Know what are toxins in your beauty products or cosmetic toxins. Read the labels on them, and avoid anything with parabens or phthalates in them.
  • Check the list of toxins on labels for skin creams for aluminum- like magnesium aluminum silicate or aluminum lauryl sulfate.
  • Dust and vacuum your home regularly, change the vacuum filter often.
  • Skip the stain protected carpets- these have chemicals which will off-gas into your home (VOC's) and you will breathe these dangerous chemicals in!
  • Limit your use of canned goods to the extent possible.
  • Purchase and use VOC-free paint in your home.
  • When pregnant or breastfeeding, use extra caution to limit your baby's exposure to known poisons.

When you are exposed to the list of toxins in products, toxins in food, toxins in your home, or cosmetic toxins, they all end up as toxins in the human body.

Of course, it would be impossible to eliminate all exposure to this list of toxins, or to follow every item perfectly. The key is to be aware of where they are found, and take reasonable steps where possible to reduce or eliminate your exposure to these chemicals.

Now that you have offense covered, give attention to your best defense!

For a great defense, boost up your body's detoxifying capabilities. Make sure that you find a way to of cleansing toxins from your body once they do get in.

Your liver is responsible for cleansing toxins from your body and removing toxins in blood and toxins in the human body. You could think of it as taking out the garbage! In order to do it's job properly, though, it depends on a protein called glutathione. This is highest in the liver and kidneys, your main organs of detoxification.

When glutathione comes in contact with a toxin, it binds or attaches to it and makes it water soluble (dissolvable in water), so it can exit the body as waste- mainly through the urine, bowels, and skin.

A century ago, most toxins we see today weren't even around. With the modern day proliferation of toxins in products we see around us today, we need a good offense, which includes protecting ourselves by reducing or eliminating our exposure to known toxins.

We also need a good defensive strategy. Once the poisons enter our system, our liver needs high levels of glutathione in order to effectively do it's job of how to cleanse toxins in the human body. So for a good defense, it is critical that we raise our levels of glutathione.
