Why doesn't your immune system work for bilharzia or schistosomiasis?

I would like to know why bilharzia (schistosomiasis) is not dealt with by the body's immune system?

Thank you for any help :)

Answer:

Wikipedia tells us that "Schistosomiasis (also known as bilharzia, bilharziosis or snail fever) is a parasitic disease caused by several species of fluke of the genus Schistosoma."

Parasites are normally dealt with and destroyed by a properly functioning immune system as soon as it enters your body. If your immune system is not equipped to deal with this parasite, then you may become sick with this condition, and be given treatment to assist your immune system to destroy the parasite.

This is true of any parasite, virus, bacteria, or fungus that we are exposed to. It all depends on the strength and function of our immune system to keep us healthy.

Our immune system is very complex, but you can learn a little more about its function by clicking here.
